CLUB CHARITY 2009

At the 2009 AGM, the Nursteed Centre was chosen by the members as this years sponsored charity.  A Race Night was held on the 16th of May and although we would have appreciated a little more support for this local and worthy cause, we still managed to raise in excess of £450. The cheque will be presented on a date yet to be arranged.

SOCIAL COMMITTEE NEWS.

The club Social Committee have been trying very hard to put together a varied entertainment package to try and appeal to as many members as possible, but of course we cannot let our hearts rule our heads so we have to take account of budgets, members support for functions and cost of hiring live entertainment.

Last autumn we had an absolutely brilliant Cabaret Night, well supported, great atmosphere, brilliant acts.

Christmas activities 2008 were all successful. The Children's Christmas Party, the Christmas Lunch and Draw, Boxing Day Family Party were all well supported and Martin, the bar manager survived the holiday period if somewhat exhausted!!!

New Years Eve was a reasonable evening, but as with the Burns Night in January the entertainment lacked the "WOW" factor that we had experienced with the Cabaret.

We have had a Quiz Night, Darts Knockout Competition, Skittles Evenings and Pool Competitions, Bingo and on Saturday 28th March we had a very good singer in the bar, so we keep trying.

The forward plans for entertainment include.

Friday 29 May Helena. Female Vocalist.

Saturday 13 June Ceilidh Band "Spill the Whisky "Supported by "Victoria" the Local Star with the beautiful voice.

Friday 3 July Rock a Billy Night with the Thundertones Plus a Comedy /Vocalist.

During the summer months there will also be trips to Bath and Salisbury Racecourses to some of the evening meetings.

October;  Cabaret Night with a 'Blues Brothers' Tribute, supported by the Duo 'Musical Express' And Female Vocalist 'Goldie'.

November Acts to be confirmed.

December Children's Party with Clive Noyes and Paul Fisher.

Christmas Lunch and Draw Christmas Bingo.

Boxing Day with Lee Stone Disco.

New Years Eve act TBC.

Full details of all events are published on the club notice boards. Skittles Evenings and quizzes will continue to be slotted in on free weekends as will the singers in the bar.
